October Baseball Is Heating Up -- And the NFL Delivered Another Wild Weekend
The 2026 MLB Division Series is in full swing with two elimination games tonight, the White Sox are one win away from the ALCS after pulling off one of the year's biggest underdog stories, the Yankees are fighting for their postseason lives, and the NFL's Week 4 gave us Drake Maye stunning the Bills, five 0-4 teams, and the Chiefs and 49ers both sitting at a perfect 4-0. Here is everything happening in sports right now.
MLB Playoffs: Two NLDS Games Tonight, White Sox on the Brink of the ALCS
How the Wild Card Round Went
Before diving into the Division Series, the Wild Card round produced some genuinely memorable results. The Chicago White Sox swept the Houston Astros in two games to advance -- their first postseason series win since 2005 and one of the most satisfying payoffs for a team that gutted out a playoff spot despite playing much of the season without slugger Munetaka Murakami. The Tampa Bay Rays nearly no-hit the Yankees in Wild Card Game 1, then New York turned around and beat the Red Sox 9-0 to advance in decisive fashion. The Milwaukee Brewers swept the Phillies and San Diego swept the Cubs (8-0 and 4-1) to set up their NLDS matchup.
Division Series Standings Entering Tonight
- ALDS -- White Sox vs Guardians (CWS leads 2-0): Chicago is one win from the ALCS after beating Cleveland 3-0 and then 4-3 in two gritty, low-scoring games that showcased exactly why this team has been the surprise of the postseason. Game 3 is Wednesday October 7 at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago. The White Sox winning a Wild Card berth, then sweeping the Astros, then taking a 2-0 series lead over the Guardians is one of the best underdog runs in recent baseball memory.
- ALDS -- Rays vs Yankees (TB leads 2-0): The Yankees are one loss from going home. Tampa Bay nearly no-hit New York in Game 1 and then received a gift in Game 2 when the Yankees committed four errors -- three in the first inning alone -- in a 5-2 collapse. Ben Rice hit two home runs just to keep things interesting, but New York needs three straight wins to advance. The baseball world is not ruling it out -- the Yankees have the lineup and Rice has been the best hitter -- but the hole is deep.
- NLDS -- Dodgers vs Braves (Series tied 1-1) -- TONIGHT 6pm ET on FS1: One of the best individual pitching matchups of the entire postseason is on the mound tonight. Yoshinobu Yamamoto takes on Chris Sale at Truist Park in Atlanta. Sale is fully rested and the Braves are getting their best-case scenario in Game 3. Yamamoto was sharp in Game 1 (Dodgers won 5-3) before an Atlanta reliever named Ray Kerr got an emergency Game 2 start and struck out Shohei Ohtani in a 3-2 Braves win to even the series. Sale healthy and rested against Yamamoto in a packed Atlanta crowd is the best game on the board tonight -- and one of the most compelling pitching matchups of the entire postseason.
- NLDS -- Brewers vs Padres (MIL leads 2-0) -- TONIGHT 9:30pm ET on FS1: Milwaukee is one win away from the NLCS and an elimination game in San Diego. The Brewers won both games in tight fashion (3-2 and 4-3) and the Padres have yet to find an answer for Milwaukee's pitching. For bettors, the Padres in a home elimination game with their season on the line is one of the more interesting live series plays tonight. San Diego is a more talented roster than two tight losses suggest, and home elimination games historically produce drama. Padres to force Game 4 has value if you believe in the talent level here.

NFL Week 4 Recap: Drake Maye Beats the Bills, Chiefs and 49ers Both 4-0, Five Teams Already 0-4
Week 4 of the 2026 NFL season produced the most surprising individual result of the young season and crystallized the early picture at the top and bottom of the league.
Patriots 29, Bills 26 -- The Biggest Upset of the Year So Far: Nobody had this on their betting card. Drake Maye -- who had thrown for one touchdown and turned the ball over six times in his first three games -- marched New England down the field for a game-winning drive against Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills at their new stadium. The Patriots are now 2-2 and suddenly the AFC East race is far more interesting than anyone expected. Allen had two interceptions and a lost fumble of his own in a turnover-filled Bills loss. Maye's reversal from his disastrous start is the most surprising NFL story of the first month of the season.
Chiefs 30, Raiders 27 -- Mahomes Settles the AFC West: Kansas City went into Las Vegas and edged the Raiders in a tight one, with Patrick Mahomes orchestrating a decisive fourth-quarter drive to break a 27-27 tie and move the Chiefs to 4-0. Las Vegas drops to 3-1. Brock Bowers was sensational again for the Raiders but it was not enough. The AFC West collision between these two teams is not over -- they will almost certainly meet again -- but Kansas City reasserted itself as the division's top dog.
49ers 4-0 -- The Best Team in Football: San Francisco beat Denver 24-14 to run to 4-0 with a plus-48 point differential, the best in the NFL. The 49ers have not trailed in a game since Week 1 and look like the class of the NFC. A Chiefs-49ers Super Bowl matchup is shaping up as the most anticipated championship game in years.
Vikings 4-0 -- Quietly Dominant: Minnesota beat Miami 15-10 in a defense-driven win that improved them to 4-0 alongside San Francisco as the NFC's unbeaten teams. The Dolphins drop to 0-4 in what is shaping up as one of the most painful starts in recent franchise history.
Giants 36, Cardinals 24 -- New York Quietly 3-1: The Giants are one of the quiet stories of the early season at 3-1. Jameis Winston has been more than serviceable and the JJ McCarthy trade adds an interesting subplot for the second half of the season. The Bears are also 3-1 after beating the Jets 23-12 for their third win in four weeks.
Rams 24, Eagles 20 -- Philadelphia Stumbling: The Eagles have dropped two straight and fall to 2-2. Los Angeles gets back to .500 at 2-2 behind a defense that has been disruptive all season. Philadelphia faces the Jaguars in London at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in Week 5 -- a long trip for a team that needs to find its footing quickly.
Falcons 45, Saints 24 -- Monday Night Football Rout: Atlanta dominated New Orleans on Monday Night Football to move to 2-2 while the Saints drop to 1-3. The Falcons put up 45 points in their most complete offensive performance of the season.
Browns 27, Steelers 24 -- Watson Game-Winner: Deshaun Watson led a late game-winning drive and Ka'imi Fairbairn hit a 56-yard field goal as Cleveland beat Pittsburgh in a divisional thriller. The Browns are building something while Pittsburgh drops to 2-2.
Five Teams at 0-4: The Texans, Buccaneers, Titans, Dolphins, and Chargers are all winless after four weeks. The Chargers situation is particularly striking given their preseason expectations. Los Angeles lost 30-23 to the Seahawks and Jim Harbaugh publicly challenged Justin Herbert to play better. Something is badly broken offensively in Los Angeles.
Week 5 Preview: Eagles in London, Chiefs vs Vikings on Deck
Week 5 opens with the Eagles at the Jaguars in London at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday morning at 9:30am ET as the NFL international series continues. The marquee domestic matchup is Chiefs at Vikings -- two of the three remaining unbeaten teams in football colliding in what promises to be one of the best regular-season games of the year.
