Championship Season Is in Full Swing
Two championship series are running simultaneously and both are delivering drama in abundance. The NBA Finals are at Madison Square Garden tonight for the first time since 1999. The Stanley Cup Finals produced one of the wildest games in recent memory on Saturday night. The World Series of Poker has already awarded 17 bracelets in just 10 days with a million-dollar bounty claimed, a near-record bracelet run by Phil Hellmuth, and a Japanese legend extending his career.
NBA Finals: Knicks Lead 2-0 -- Game 3 Is Tonight at MSG
The New York Knicks are two wins away from their first NBA championship since 1973 after taking a commanding 2-0 series lead over the San Antonio Spurs. Tonight the series comes home to Madison Square Garden for the first time in 9,845 days.
Game 1 in San Antonio was comfortable -- the Knicks won 105-95 behind a balanced offensive effort. Game 2 was something else entirely. The Spurs erupted with a 14-0 run in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 97 with under three minutes left. Victor Wembanyama scored 29 points and rallied his team to within one possession with 9.5 seconds remaining. Then Wembanyama threw the ball off the back of Stephon Castle, Jalen Brunson got fouled, hit the go-ahead free throw, and Wemby's buzzer jumper bounced off the rim. Final score: Knicks 105, Spurs 104. The Knicks are now 13-0 in the postseason -- the second-longest winning streak by any team in NBA playoff history -- joining the 1993 Chicago Bulls and 1995 Houston Rockets as the only teams to win the first two Finals games on the road.
Karl-Anthony Towns had 21 points and 13 rebounds in Game 2. Brunson and Mikal Bridges each scored 20. Wembanyama continues to be magnificent but the supporting cast has been inconsistent when it matters most. De'Aaron Fox had 20 points but shot 3-for-13 before his late surge.
Game 3 is tonight at 8:30pm ET on ABC from Madison Square Garden. The Knicks are -1.5 favorites at home with ESPN Analytics giving New York a 58.2% win probability. Brunson averages 26 points per game this series. Wemby is at 25. Secondary market tickets were approaching $9,000 for the worst seats on Friday night. The last NBA Finals game at MSG was June 25, 1999 -- a Spurs win in that series. Tonight New York gets its chance to go up 3-0 in front of the loudest building in basketball.
From a betting angle, the Knicks at -1.5 at home with a 13-game winning streak, superior rest, and a desperate opponent is as compelling a position as any team can be in. The real question is whether San Antonio's desperation produces a historic performance to keep this series alive.
Stanley Cup Finals: Golden Knights Lead 2-1 After the Wildest Game of the Year
The 2026 Stanley Cup Finals between the Vegas Golden Knights and Carolina Hurricanes have delivered high drama through three games -- and Game 3 on Saturday night may have been the most chaotic Finals game in years.
Game 1 went to Vegas 5-4 in Raleigh with Mitch Marner once again leading the way. Game 2 went to Carolina 4-3 in overtime on a Seth Jarvis goal to even the series. Then came Saturday in Las Vegas. Marner scored the fastest hat trick in Stanley Cup Finals history. The Golden Knights led 4-0. Carolina then launched the largest third-period comeback in Finals history -- erasing that entire deficit to tie the game. After a scoreless first overtime, Shea Theodore got a fortunate bounce in double overtime to win it for Vegas. The Golden Knights lead the series 2-1.
Carolina was 12-0 in games where they allowed two or fewer goals this postseason and went to the Finals having lost only one game all playoffs. But they have allowed eight goals in three Finals games and Vegas's offensive pressure has cracked that defensive identity. Marner now has 17 playoff assists and is the frontrunner for the Conn Smythe Trophy. Game 4 is tomorrow night, Tuesday June 9 at 8pm ET on ABC from Las Vegas. Carolina needs to slow Marner or this series may not go back to Raleigh.
WSOP: 17 Bracelets in 10 Days -- Million-Dollar Bounty Claimed, Hellmuth Near History
The 57th World Series of Poker has been running for 10 days and the results have been relentless. Seventeen of the 100 scheduled bracelets have been awarded across 21 events, with 44,381 total entries already logged at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas.
The biggest story of week one was Event #1 -- the $550 Mini Mystery Millions. Philip Chun, coached by five-time bracelet winner Kristen Foxen, turned a $550 buy-in into $400,000 in first-place prize money, effectively doubling his lifetime live tournament earnings with a single event. But Chun was not even the biggest winner in that event -- Andrew Shelton, who finished 102nd and did not make the money, claimed the hidden $1 million mystery bounty embedded in the tournament. Shelton won seven figures without cashing.
Phil Hellmuth reached the final table of Event #9, the $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship, and came one deep run away from extending his all-time WSOP bracelet record to 18. He fell short, but a $10,000 championship final table appearance is a reminder that Hellmuth belongs in any all-time tournament conversation.
Japan's Naoya Kihara won his second WSOP bracelet 14 years after his first, taking down $428,923. Kihara said after the win that he was 44 years old and had been considering retiring from tournament poker before this victory convinced him to keep playing for at least a few more years. Naseem Salem took home $1,089,964 for the biggest individual score of the series so far. Stephen Hubbard, who had already final-tabled the $5,000 PLO in the same series, won the $1,500 NL 2-7 Lowball Draw for $155,819 and his first bracelet.
The WSOP Online Bracelet Series is running simultaneously through July 14 with 30 events and $7 million in guaranteed prize pools. Fifty Main Event seats will be awarded through two $215 Scramble events on June 28 and June 30 -- the most affordable path to a Las Vegas Main Event seat available.
