The Biggest Sunday in Sports History

New York City is still celebrating its first NBA championship in 53 years. The World Cup is in full swing across three countries. And tonight, the UFC stages the most unprecedented event in combat sports history -- right on the South Lawn of the White House. There has never been a Sunday quite like this one in American sports. Here is everything you need to know.

Knicks Win the 2026 NBA Championship -- First Title Since 1973

New York City waited 53 years for this. On Saturday night in San Antonio, Jalen Brunson delivered one of the great individual performances in NBA Finals history -- 45 points, including 13 straight in the fourth quarter -- to lift the Knicks to a 94-90 Game 5 victory and their first NBA championship since 1973. The city that never sleeps has not slept since.

Brunson was named Finals MVP and it was not close. He set a Knicks franchise record for points in a Finals game, surpassing Willis Reed's 38 in the 1970 series. His fourth-quarter takeover was vintage Brunson -- calm, relentless, unstoppable in the mid-range. The Knicks trailed by 16 in Game 5 before he willed them back. In fact the Knicks rallied from double-digit deficits in all four of their series wins -- a level of collective resilience that has no parallel in recent Finals history.

The series result was 4-1 over the San Antonio Spurs, but the scoreline understates how competitive it was. Games 2 and 4 were decided by one point each. Game 3 went to the Spurs 115-111 behind a 32-point, 8-rebound, 6-assist, 3-block performance from Victor Wembanyama. Game 4 produced the largest comeback in Finals history -- the Knicks down 29, OG Anunoby hitting a putback with 1.2 seconds left. For a young Spurs team that won seven games in the Western Conference Finals and pushed this series to the limit, this defeat will hurt -- but it will also shape them. Wembanyama is 22 years old. This will not be his last Finals.

For New York, the feeling is indescribable. Brunson, Mikal Bridges, and Josh Hart became the first trio of teammates to win both an NCAA title and an NBA championship. The ticker-tape parade is scheduled for today, Sunday June 14, along the Canyon of Heroes in Manhattan. The Empire State Building shone in blue and orange Saturday night. Madison Square Garden erupted for an NBA Finals game for the first time in 27 years. The Knicks are champions.

UFC Freedom 250 at the White House: Tonight, 8pm ET on Paramount+

While New York celebrates its basketball title, the most historically unique sporting event ever staged on American soil takes place tonight. UFC Freedom 250 is scheduled for 8pm ET on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington DC -- a custom-built octagon and arena erected on the White House grounds to coincide with President Trump's 80th birthday and the nation's 250th anniversary celebrations. More than 4,000 fans will watch live. It streams exclusively on Paramount+ and the full card features seven fights including five title implications.

Main Event: Ilia Topuria vs Justin Gaethje -- Lightweight Title Unification

Undisputed lightweight champion Ilia Topuria (17-0) puts his belt on the line against interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje in a true title unification bout. Topuria is one of the most exciting fighters in the world -- a featherweight champion who moved up to lightweight and immediately earned championship gold. Undefeated, devastating in his finishing ability, and at 27 years old potentially at the peak of his powers.

Gaethje is one of the toughest fights in the sport. A walking war, a pressure machine, a fighter who has been in the best brawls of the last decade. When asked if he planned to make Topuria emotional with pre-fight comments, Gaethje was characteristically direct: 'I hope so. I hope he comes out very aggressive.' Everything is misdirection with Gaethje and Topuria knows it. If this fight goes to the championship rounds, it will be one of the best fights of the year. If it ends early -- and both men are certified finishers -- it may be over before most people in the building have settled into their seats on the South Lawn.

Co-Main Event: Alex Pereira vs Ciryl Gane -- Interim Heavyweight Title and History

The co-main event may be the most historically significant fight on the card. Alex 'Poatan' Pereira has already won the middleweight and light heavyweight titles. A win over Ciryl Gane tonight for the interim heavyweight belt would make him the first fighter in UFC history to hold championships in three different weight classes -- one of the most remarkable feats in the history of combat sports.

Gane is a legitimate heavyweight who has challenged for the title four times. He is athletic, technical, and capable of making Pereira work for every inch. Pereira has the power to end the fight with one punch but Gane's movement and jab have neutralized bigger opponents before. Also on the card: Sean O'Malley vs Aiemann Zahabi at bantamweight, Josh Hokit (9-0) vs Derrick Lewis in a heavyweight bout, Mauricio Ruffy vs Michael Chandler at lightweight, and Bo Nickal in a middleweight contest.

One note: a lawsuit filed by two Virginia residents attempted to block the event, arguing UFC had been unlawfully granted access to White House grounds for a private for-profit event. A federal judge declined to block it on Friday after the Justice Department defended the administration's plans. The weather has also been a concern -- summer humidity and potential rain in DC -- but Dana White has made clear the event is happening regardless. Tonight's card is the most anticipated UFC event of 2026 and one of the most unique in the promotion's history.

World Cup 2026: Day 4 Underway -- Scotland Wins, Brazil Draws, Qatar Makes History

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is three days old and it has already delivered upsets, historic moments, and some of the best football atmospheres on the planet. Here is where things stand heading into Sunday's matches.

Australia got off the mark with a win over Turkey, with Watford winger Nestory Irankunda scoring a standout goal in the first half before Connor Metcalfe sealed the win late. In one of the more remarkable results of the opening days, Qatar drew with Switzerland -- earning their first ever World Cup point in their second ever tournament appearance, courtesy of a Swiss own goal. Scotland and Brazil have also played their openers, with Scotland picking up a result and Brazil being held to a draw by Morocco in an early group-stage surprise.

Today's Group E and F action features four matches. Germany open against Curacao -- the smallest nation by population ever to compete at a World Cup, with roughly 150,000 people -- at noon ET in Houston. The Netherlands face Japan in Dallas at 3pm ET, Ivory Coast take on Ecuador at 9pm ET in Philadelphia, and Sweden play Tunisia at 9pm ET in Monterrey. Germany are heavy favorites but the expanded 48-team format means nothing is taken for granted in group play.

The USMNT opens their tournament next week. For bettors, the World Cup is one of the most opportunity-rich events on the betting calendar. Group stage lines are frequently mispriced in the opening days, draw markets are undervalued, and the expanded format creates late-group-stage betting angles that did not exist in previous tournaments. How to Bet Tonight's UFC White House Card

UFC Freedom 250 is one of the most anticipated betting events of the year. Here are the key angles heading into tonight's card:

  • Topuria to finish inside the distance. Topuria has finished 15 of his 17 professional wins. Gaethje is durable but has been stopped before and walks into fire by design. Both men are aggressive finishers and this fight has a high likelihood of not going the full 25 minutes.
  • Pereira is the best bet on the card. Poatan has shown the ability to adapt his game to different opponents and Gane, while elite, has struggled against top-tier power punchers. Pereira's motivation to make history tonight is unlike anything he has carried into a fight before.
  • Shop your lines before the first walkout. UFC lines move significantly on fight day as public money floods in. Getting your number early on a card this high-profile is essential. Check bonusdrop.io to compare current odds and grab any promotional offers before the card begins at 8pm ET on Paramount+.
