The Week That Delivered on Every Front

Championship moments, stunning upsets, a 27-year drought ending, and the biggest poker tournament on the planet starting today. If you are a sports bettor who has been paying attention this week, it has been one of the most rewarding stretches of the entire year. Here is your full briefing on everything that happened -- and what to bet tonight and beyond.

NBA: Knicks Are Going to the Finals for the First Time Since 1999

It is official. The New York Knicks swept the Cleveland Cavaliers in four games to reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999 -- ending a 27-year drought that had become one of the defining stories of the franchise's tortured history. The Knicks are riding a ten-game winning streak that is unlike anything in franchise history. Jalen Brunson was named Eastern Conference Finals MVP after orchestrating one of the most complete team performances of this entire postseason.

The sweep was not without drama. In Game 1, the Cavaliers blew what Donovan Mitchell described after Game 3 as a 22-point lead -- and according to Mitchell himself, that collapse changed the entire tenor of the series. Cleveland never recovered. The Cavs endured four straight double-digit defeats, including a thumping in Game 4, after the collapse in Game 1 changed the series. Game 3 was defined by 30 points from Brunson and 22 from a red-hot Mikal Bridges, placing New York one win away from the Finals. Game 4 was a 130-93 statement win that left no doubt.

The Knicks now await the winner of the Western Conference Finals -- either OKC or San Antonio. The NBA Finals begin June 3 on ABC, with Game 1 at 8:30pm ET. For bettors, New York opened as a slight underdog against either Western Conference opponent, but the Knicks' momentum, health, and home-court advantage make this a genuinely competitive Finals matchup regardless of who comes out of the West.

Western Conference Finals: OKC and San Antonio Tied 2-2 -- Game 5 Tonight

This is the most compelling series in basketball right now, and it delivered exactly the drama everyone hoped for this weekend. The Spurs won Game 1 122-115 in double overtime. The Thunder responded with a 122-113 Game 2 win. OKC dominated Game 3 123-108. Then San Antonio stunned Oklahoma City 103-82 in Game 4 on Sunday to tie the series at 2-2.

The Spurs' Game 4 blowout was one of the more surprising results of the entire postseason -- OKC had not been beaten by more than 10 points all playoffs before Sunday. Victor Wembanyama put up 33 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks in Game 4 -- a performance that was as complete as anything he has shown in this entire postseason run. De'Aaron Fox revealed after the game that San Antonio legend Gregg Popovich provided a strong critique at a crucial time for the young Spurs. Whatever Popovich said, it worked.

Game 5 is tonight at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City at 8:30pm ET on NBC. OKC has home-court advantage and the defending champion Thunder have not lost consecutive games all season. The Spurs have now shown they can dominate a game in this building -- but winning two in a row at OKC with the series on the line is a different ask entirely. OKC's bench scored 76 points in one game earlier in the series, including playoff career highs from Jared McCain (24) and Jaylin Williams (18). The depth advantage belongs to Oklahoma City. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander repeated as NBA MVP this season and has been the best player on the floor in every game OKC has won in this series. Tonight is must-watch television.

NHL: Vegas Golden Knights One Win from Sweeping the Presidents' Trophy Winners

The biggest upset story in the Stanley Cup Playoffs right now is happening out West. The Vegas Golden Knights lead the Colorado Avalanche 3-0 in the Western Conference Finals -- stunning a Colorado team that won the Presidents' Trophy as the best record in hockey during the regular season. Tomas Hertl scored the winning goal in Game 3, his third in six games after a 29-game goalless drought -- his first playoff winner since 2019. Mitch Marner has been the best player in the series for Vegas, and the Golden Knights' defensive structure has neutralized Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar in ways almost nobody predicted. Game 4 is tonight at 9pm ET on ESPN -- Colorado is facing elimination at home and is one of the most desperate teams in playoff hockey right now. A sweep of the Presidents' Trophy winner would be one of the biggest upsets in conference finals history.

In the East, Montreal won Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals 6-2 over Carolina -- handing the Hurricanes their first loss of the entire postseason and ending their bid for a perfect run. The Hurricanes responded to win both Games 2 and 3, both by a score of 3-2 in overtime, and now lead the series 2-1. Juraj Slafkovsky has been outstanding for Montreal -- two goals and an assist in the opener -- and Jakob Dobes has been a revelation in goal. But Carolina's experience and depth are showing in the close games. Game 4 is Wednesday in Montreal at 8pm ET on TNT.

The Preakness Recap: Napoleon Solo Ends Any Triple Crown Dreams

In case you missed it last week: Napoleon Solo won the 151st Preakness Stakes at Laurel Park on May 16 at 10-1 odds, paying $17.80 on a $2 win bet. Trained by Chad Summers and ridden by Paco Lopez, the grey colt tracked early pacesetter Taj Mahal before taking the lead at the top of the stretch and holding on by approximately a length. Kentucky Derby winner Golden Tempo did not run in the Preakness -- skipping specifically to build for the Belmont Stakes, meaning there is no Triple Crown on the table. The Belmont is the next race on the calendar and Napoleon Solo vs Golden Tempo in the same field would be one of the most compelling individual betting matchups of the summer. Watch the entries closely.

Tonight Is Loaded -- Here Is How to Bet It

Two massive events on the same night: OKC hosts San Antonio in a pivotal Game 5 at 8:30pm ET, and Vegas can complete a stunning sweep of Colorado at 9pm ET on ESPN. In basketball, the Thunder are the right lean at home tonight -- they have not lost back-to-back games all year and the Spurs are asking a lot to win two straight in OKC with the series now even. In hockey, Colorado is facing elimination at home -- the Avalanche have everything on the line and MacKinnon at home in a must-win is one of the most dangerous forces in the sport. The case for betting an Avalanche win tonight is real even at home underdog prices.
